Birdwatching in Suffolk Great White Egret Sightings on Thorpeness MeareJanuary 2009

In early January 2007 and 2008 a Great White Egret was sighted on Thorpeness Meare clearly visable from The Thorpeness Hotel gardens and some of the bedrooms.

This beautiful bird appeared daily, mostly around sunrise and early morning for most of the month and into early February.

Last year this caused great exitement amongst the local birdwatchers and some came from further afield.

RSPB Minsmere is closeby where in the Winter you can spot wigeons and teals, lapwings and marsh harriers, barn and short eared owls, peregrines, Bewick Swans and goldeneyes. and Otters on Island Mere.
There are excellent wooden walkways, ideal for muddy Winter walking, viewing points and nature trails, tearoom and visitors centre.

For a Winter Birdwatching Weekend Thorpeness Hotel has competative rates for overnight accommodation
